Footprints of William...a story inspired from love for an Irish Wolfhound named Larry

THE EARLY CLUES SUMMER 2000

My story was not different from anyone else who experienced the loss of a loved one to Spirit.  The painful grieving, the loneliness seemed to never relent until I embraced the concept that when we die we yet survive the change called death. I then decided to take an action step; to learn Spirit communication to overcome the terrible loss. My logical mind concluded that because we came from Spirit, it just seemed right that we should be able to talk with those yet there. So I came to believe that anyone who desired to communicate with Spirit could do just that. I started classes and each one of my teachers told me that Spiritual Development began with mediation.

I had been meditating religiously, twice daily and noting my progress with ‘seeing’ Spirit for nearly six months when I decided to test my skills. I enrolled in a small seminar with mental medium Suzane Northrop. Mental mediumship was the more common form of Spirit communication, working through thought energy to use the mind of the medium to convey a message or idea from Spirit. Conversely, physical mediumship was a more rare type and involved physical phenomena. The class with Suzane was exciting; each student gave ‘a reading’ or message from Spirit to another person in the circle. I got my first communication about Larry with some words from my guide, a very tall man with a strong presence I was told. The information validated what I was seeing in meditation and I was thrilled.  I was on the right track!

The concept of going to a medium for a sitting had strangely never occurred to me before. But someone I knew went to ‘the Barbados,’ the John Edward’s week long seminar with three other noted mediums, Robert Brown, Suzane Northrop and the late Shelly Peck. I had tried to attend; bought my plane ticket and had to cancel as my employer would not permit me to use my vacation time to go; that was the last time I allowed such outside interference to my work with Spirit! Now my friend was suggesting that I get a personal reading with one of those well respected mediums; I called Robert Brown’s office for an appointment.

The sitting was scheduled for October on Long Island; I knew I would hear from Larry; I just had to, I needed to find out that he was OK! The day for the reading finally arrived and in the suite of a Long Island hotel where dogs were not permitted, I sat through nearly the entire hour long reading before I heard from my baby, my precious Lawrence Booboobear. Robert Brown had given me a plethora of evidence from Spirit with dozens of relatives and friends ‘checking in’ as it were. Then I heard Larry bark. The odd sound came near the end of the session and was recorded on the tape. Up until that point I did not appreciate the work that medium was doing on my behalf. I had heard of Direct Voice but to experience that sound ‘through the veil’ was unbelievable! I played the tape of that session over and over again as I drove home from New York to Boston. Sure enough there was the barking sound. When I later played it for my husband Ed, tears formed in his eyes as he reticently agreed. “It’s him; that’s Larry’s bark.”

So now I had affirmation that there was an afterlife; that energy was never lost. And more importantly, that the priest I met at work was wrong; animals DO cross over!!!  So much was happening around me; there were exciting discoveries every day. My own skills at mediumship were developing. I was getting images on a regular basis. What next I wondered? How long would it be before I could hear; get an answer to a question? Would mediumship be like a telephone to the Otherworld? I had so many questions and so much hope. I was encouraged by Robert Brown’s suggestion; to look beyond my own work in meditation and to seek out the Spiritualist churches in and around my hometown of Boston. I also determined that I would go to a week long conference with the ISF, the International Spiritualist Federation and take some intensive classes in the study of mediumship.
